When most people receive a cream colored envelope in the mail, it’s usually good news. It means they’ve been invited to a formal event like a wedding or debutante ball. These folks relish the idea of dressing up in their finest outfits and enjoying an evening of wonder. People like this are called “men.”

Whether they show it or not, men are usually more excited about formal events than women because they already know what they’re going to wear, a tuxedo or suit. And men don’t have to worry about showing off their bodies in these outfits either. But for women, getting ready for a formal event is an entirely different matter.

Formal bridesmaid, prom and homecoming dresses put a woman’s body on display in a way men would never tolerate. Every imperfection on the arms is highlighted by sleeveless gowns. And don’t even get started on the perils of a backless gown.

Men are also fortunate that they can wear their regular everyday shoes with a suit. They’ll never know the joys of wearing discount womens shoes for hours, no matter how uncomfortable they are.

So gentlemen, have a little patience the next time the lady in your life is getting ready for a formal event.
